JEWISH HEALING: Professional Intensive Training
"If someone  has a pain, whether physical or spiritual, and they find G-d in  that  pain, they will be healed." - quote from the Ba'al Shem Tov In today's experiential training, Ya'akov Gerlitz will demonstrate a method of  authentic  Torah-based healing in which the practitioner guides the client to connect to  the Divine shefa (grace/power) within their pain or illness, therefore opening  the person to their innate emunah (faith or  G-d consciousness). Emunah, the highest source of shefa in the universe, eradicates any negativity, doubt and  pessimism, therefore healing disease. Open to people of all faiths, this  training is ideal for health  professionals, rabbis, clergy, counselors or anyone  with a healing gift.  This practical, clinically relevant information will equip practitioners  with the necessary tools to begin using these Jewish healing principles immediately.

INNER DIVINE GUIDANCE

April 3 Sunday 4-7 pm
OPEN MIND MOVEMENT: Embodied Kabbalistic Meditation

Open Mind Movement awakens the space around and within the body. Sources
in Kabbalah reveal the designs of a body/mind/soul temple that surrounds
each of us at all times. Through intellectual study, contemplative
visualization, and hands-on physical guidance drawn from the Alexander
Technique, we will begin to sense this open container as an experiential
reality. Finally, with subtle and simple movement improvisations we will
explore how this structure can free us for the profound dance of the
whole self.
BIO: Mattisyahu Brown is the originator of Open Mind Movement. He holds a
degree in post-modern dance choreography, and professional
certifications in the Alexander Technique (teaching the dynamics of
alignment and coordination in the body) and Somatic Experiencing
(body/mind trauma resolution). He is also a student of self-inquiry and
Jewish spirituality, and is an editor of English-language books on
Kabbalah and Chassidut.

With Rabbi Gershon Winkler
All-Around Coyote and Shamanic Schmoozer
From the wilds of Cuba, New Mexico

An ancient Kabbalistic teaching about four important dimensions that comprise our life on earth: Chaos, Emptiness, Darkness, and Light. This exploration into the deep teachings about these layers will help us better grasp the agony and the ecstasy of life as a human. Based on the very beginning of the Hebrew Creation story, this wisdom explores the four layers of our reality on earth, how each and every step, choice, and action, unfolds through these four layers or dimensions. We will also learn how it is that Light is sponsored and made possible solely by the three phases of unfolding that is Chaos, Emptiness, and Darkness, and how our conscientious walk in each is essential for our personal healing and betterment, as well as for promoting a more peaceful walk along our life path. During this weekend, we will explore ancient and early-medieval Hebrew and Aramaic source texts to discover yet-unrevealed layers of insight into the paradoxes of this life that will deepen our understanding about the mystery we so glibly call God and the miracle we so condescendingly call Existence.

Described by the Jerusalem Post as "A blend of the wit of Robin Williams and the wisdom of the Baal Shem Tov," Gershon himself is far more challenging than the teachings he will bring, and most probably, as a result, you will come away from this workshop more perplexed than you were before you arrived. But you will also come away with unprecedented heartfelt joy and learning from the unparalleled experience of having basked in the presence of a maverick teacher who is known for his uncanny ability to render user-friendly, bite-size, and accessible the otherwise- cryptic wisdom of the Kabbalah. Armed with deep belly-humor, even deeper mystical teachings, chants and experientials, Gershon will illuminate you, tickle you, stretch you, and -- best of all -- gift you with a perspective on life that will bring you joy, healing, wisdom, and the realization that there is none. Realization, that is. As Gershon puts it: "We are all here for the purpose of not knowing why. The greatest ills, in fact, come from trying to figure it out anyway. In this course, we will endeavor to figure out why it is we are endeavoring to figure it out, and why it is we are trying to achieve enlightenment when enlightenment is something we made up to begin with!"

Sunday May 22, 2-7 PM.

The Kabbalistic version of The Gates, The Gates of Consciousness, goes back hundreds of years to Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, author of the Zohar (the most important kabbalistic work, nearly 2,000 years ago). Over the years there have been writings building on his ideas of universal values corresponding to the 50 gates of understanding that the Children of Israel had to self improve upon during the 50 days between leaving slavery in Egypt and receiving the Torah at Mount Sinai.

Based on these concepts, The Carlebach Shul has created this interactive exhibit taking children and adults on a journey into the universal values of: kindness, discipline, harmony, endurance, empathy, bonding and nobility.
The event is scheduled during the Sefirat Ha'Omer, the traditional time of counting the 50 levels of self improvement day by day, starting on the second night of Passover, until we reach the 50th day called Shavuot, the Festival of Weeks, when the Torah was given at Mount Sinai.

'The Gates of Consciousness' is a new exhibit part of The Free, 3rd Annual pre-Lag B'Omer Fair in Riverside Park & 79th St., Manhattan. 'A reminder that every day counts.'

Wed, July 13th.Cruise w Rock
Hey Brothas and Sistas,

Due in part to the enormous success of HEEDOOSH'S sold-out Manhattan
debut (praise G-d and a huge thank you to the peeps for coming
out!!!), I have been delightfully borrowed by a fabulous jammy
not-unrelated band called NOMAD . . .

Sharing one of Heedoosh's two sets of beautiful brothers, Nomad
possesses the same energy, drive, and musical eloquence that Guy and
Daniel Engleman lend to Heedoosh.

On July 13, 2005, the famous NYC Rocks Off Concert Cruise Series will
feature NOMAD aboard the Half Moon Boat. (http://www.rocksoff.com/ -
Nomad is in fine company . . . now in its fourth year, the cruise is
also hosting The Derek Trucks Band, The Dirty Dozen Brass band, Percy
Hill, and Karl Denson's Tiny Universe.) Influenced by their native
Chicago and travels in Israel, Jordan, Turkey, and Europe, brothers
Guy and Daniel Engelman synthesized elements of Blues, Soul, Rock &
Roll, and Flamenco to form the Nomad sound. Nomad has opened for the
Addison Groove Project and Raq, among others, and has performed in
Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, and New York. It has received awards
on George Martin's garageband.com in the Blues Rock and Groove Rock
categories.

Jambase.com reports about the Rocks Off cruise experience, "There is
nothing quite like winding down from those sweaty summer days upon The
Half Moon Boat with a cold drink in your hand, the crisp breeze off
the East River in your face, the lights of Gotham's greatest
architectural treasures lighting your way, and the sounds of some of
today's finest screaming all around you." As TICKETS ARE LIMITED, we
recommend pre-ordering to ensure a spot (www.rocksoff.com/boatcruise -
find July 13th on the calendar)!!! Cruise will leave from the Skyport
Marina at 23rd St. and FDR Drive (East Side) at 7 pm; show begins at 8
pm. $20 in advance, $25 day of show.

Check out Nomad at http://www.nomad-music.net/.

Check out Heedoosh at http://www.heedoosh.com/ (see details for
upcoming NYC show at the Lion's Den on July 21st!)

A little window into the worlds of brothers Guy and Daniel: Guy has
played at Hebrew University and worked at a recording studio with
Warren Haynes (The Allman Brothers Band, Government Mule, The Dead).
Daniel spent his high school years playing blues, jazz, and orchestral
music as well as rock 'n' roll and klezmer. He is the recipient of
the Louis Armstrong Award for Excellence in Jazz Performance and won a
selection to play guitar in the 1998 Midwest Grammy Jazz Quintet. The
juncture at which Daniel found "The Groove:" the element of music that
makes people move was in the return to his roots: playing blues, rock
'n' roll, and soul.

Cheers and happy summer,

Tova Messer

$12 in advance, $15 at the door
Doors open at 9pm
Visit Joe's Pub website or call (212) 539-8778.
* Havdallah is a ritual on Saturday nights that marks the end of Shabbat or
Sabbath and the beginning of the new week ahead. The word Havdallah actually
means separation in Hebrew and signifies the difference between the holy and
the everyday. We dim the house lights and light a braided candle on stage.
Then we play the grooves which are all Middle Eastern, Mizrachi style. The
prayers are chanted over the grooves, in fact we frequently have special
guest singers or Chazans do the chanting. Recently in Berkeley, our guest
was the great Egyptian/Israeli Isaac Soncino who mezmorized the audience by
singing in the silsul style. "Mashu, mashu!" Spices are passed around
through the audience as part of the ceremony as the music intensifies. It
concludes by extinguishing the candle in a glass of wine.

" Kabbalistic Meditative Ecstasy"-

a weeklong meditative kabbalah workshop
at Elat Chayyim

.This is a wonderful opportunity and an
ideal setting to receive powerful kabbalistic meditative practices that
illuminate deep kabbalistic teachings to help us to live our lives more
fully and authentically.
Many people have learned vipassana, zen, or yogic meditation and have
received many benefits. For many, the quieting of the mind has opened them
to Judaism on a deeper level. Many people have learned kabbalah and it has
also opened them to the deeper dimensions of life and Judaism.
This workshop offers an unique opportunity to combine the desire or love of
meditation with the deep teachings of kabbalah to experience kabbalistic
meditation which is the awesome gift of our lineage. I personally have found
that it is only through meditation and prayer that these deep teachings of
Torah and kabbalah may really be learned. This is my life work and my
passion for the last 20 years. For registration details, contact Elat
Chayyim directly at 1 800- 398-2630.

Jewish communities? We will explore how to build bridges between people of
competing ideologies: religious, secular, left wing, right wing, and
everything in between.

reconciliation: How can we use the story of Abraham1s family as a tool for
healing fractured relationships?

future role of Jewish peacebuilders look like?

Bruce/RebbeSoul

===== Pack your bags, leave behind the thick city heat and give yourself the gift
of a refreshing week of Torah, prayer, meditation, yoga, music and joyful
rejuvenation in the Catskills.
For the first-time in its history, the Jewish Retreat Center has designed a
retreat specifically for more halakhically observant Jews! Over the years
many modern orthodox and other traditional practicing Jews have been coming
to Elat Chayyim. Their experiences have been transformational. However,
they have asked us to change a few things to make them feel more
comfortable. Working with our traditional chevre, we have co-designed this
incredible week. We have a line-up of incredible teachers who brilliantly
connect the roots of tradition to wings of spiritual awareness and growth.
Neshamology and the Purpose-Guided Life: A Jewish Blend of Psychology,
Spirituality, and Meditation.
with Rabbi David Zeller of Yakar
Our Souls long to see and feel God, in everything, in everyone, and in
ourselves. In this course, you will learn some steps to having this purpose
become apparent in your life. To do this, you will blend Psychology,
spirituality, and meditation, deriving practices from texts of the Besht,
the Me'or Aynaiim,
R. Nachman, R. Yisrael of Rizhin, R. Menachem Eckstein, R. Chaim Vital, and
others.
Pathways to Participation: Women in the Synagogue
with Rachel Berkovitz of Pardes Institute
Traditional synagogue ritual be satisfied while keeping within the confines
of Jewish Law? What potential options exist within the halakhah for
development? In what ways can a community spiritually strengthen itself by
unleashing the religious energy of half its members? In this course, you
will address these questions and more by intensely delving into traditional
and contemporary halakhic texts on the topics of women1s obligation in
prayer, minyan, Torah, and megillah reading.
Gates of Religious Truth
with Dr. Tamar Ross of Bar Ilan University
Anyone born into a religious tradition based on the authority of revelation
is likely to encounter clashes with the evidence of reason. Can and should
these be resolved? If so, how? You will examine the use of allegory as a
means of scientific truth claims, based on a study of selections from the
writings of Maimonides, Rabbi Yehudah Alfachar, and Rav Kook.
Introduction to Kabbalah
with Ebn Leader of Hebrew College
In this course you will study pieces from the great work 3Shnei Luchot
HaBrit,2 by the 17th century Rabbi Isaiah Hurvitz, a mixture of Halacha and
Kabbalah that aspired to cover all aspects of life. You will contemplate
texts that touch on God, humanity, the goal of life and activism, and the
way one lives a life aspiring towards holiness.
Torah Yoga: A Gateway to the Sensational Torah Within You
with Diane Bloomfield
Torah Yoga is a gateway to traditional Torah study, as well as a gateway to
the Torah that is within your own body, mind, heart and soul. In this
workshop, through the study of traditional Jewish sources and the practice
of classic Yoga postures, you explore the connection between the written and
embodied Torah.
Radical Return: Rav Kook, Integral T1shuva Practice, and Wholeness
with Rabbi David Ingber
This course will explore Rav Kook1s seminal work 3Orot HaTeshuva2 to explore
a radically different approach to the Teshuva process. Integral Teshuva
Practice (ITP) is designed to engage the entire person - body, heart, mind
and soul - in the process of return to the basic at-one-ment of all
existence.
Rhythms of the Jewish Soul: An Exploration of Judaism and Drumming
with Akiva Wharton
Music is a window into the Soul. Here is a chance to study hand drumming and
rhythm, finding relaxation and deeper spiritual wellsprings. Akiva works
with many of the voices on the current Jewish scene, including Avraham
Fried, C. Landsbom, Shloime Dachs and Yehuda.
Kashruth is strictly supervised by Rabbi Michael Samuel with on-site
supervision by Rabbi David Ingber. Halakhic Shabbat observance will be
kept.
